"Between traipsing through thigh deep mud and battling the tides to reach villages, being 'adopted' in to a local clan and given a tribal name, and facing the challenge each morning of erecting a room dark enough for our optometrist to efficiently work in , the last 6 weeks have been exciting and fun, but also very full-on! The need at times was overwhelming but I believe through both the training and practical care we were able to provide that many Papua New Guineans are beginning to find hope. I'm now stoked be back on dry land and looking forward to getting back into the swing of things here at our base in Townsville. The ship will be here in port for the next six months, undergoing maintenance and preparation before we head back up to PNG in April."
